Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions about Continental Academie of Hair Design

Why should I choose Continental Academie of Hair Design?

At Continental, we make dreams come true. Continental Academie of Hair Design is a full service cosmetology school that has been servicing the general public for over 35 years. With a proven track record of success, we have been making dreams come true hundreds of times over. There is a campus in Manchester, NH as well as the flagship campus in Hudson, NH. The Academie uses the Milady text as well as over a hundred years combined experience from our talented instructors. Here at Continental, we do not subscribe to a single school of thought so that we are able to teach our students as many skills and techniques as we possibly can. A student can use over three or four different techniques on a single style to really make the service work for the client.

Our dedicated instructors do everything possible to make our students think, figure it out and push their creativity. They give students all the right tools to make their client look and feel great. This is an industry where people come to make themselves feel better, and we do our utmost to teach those skills.

We conduct an extensive mock State Board exam, so our graduates are very well prepared to pass the actual New Hampshire State Board Exam.

Continental Academie has been a staple in the community and has developed a prestigious reputation for giving an excellent education. Our graduates are sought after by area salons. Many of our graduates go on to be successful salon owners and platform artists as well.

What is cosmetology?

According to Milady’s text Cosmetology is defined as, “the art and science of beautifying and improving the skin, nails and hair, and the study of cosmetics and its application”. The term itself stems from the Greek word, kosmetikos, meaning “skilled in the use of cosmetics”. In present culture, the field of cosmetology is growing at a very rapid rate. Everyday in this country hundreds of thousands of people, if not more, get their hair, nails or skin serviced. Many consider this field to be fun, fulfilling and rewarding. This industry is one of true science, it just so happens to make the world a much prettier place at the same time.

How much does it cost?

Currently, our total cost is $14,600 through August 31, 2009 increasing to $15,650 on September 1, 2009, and includes the cost of your kit, tuition and all administrative fees. We do our best to keep our costs down for our students. We are independently owned and are not part of a franchise; therefore we do not pay a franchise fee or advertising fee to a brand or manufacturer. Will there be homework?

Yes, this is a school! There are actually two major projects in our curriculum, a color project and a business project. Your color project is the capstone of your color class, and will demonstrate everything that was learned in that class. Your business project will consist of setting up a mock salon from the ground up. You will be responsible for everything from insurance, space design, and retail products and how much you will pay each stylist working for you and how.

There will also be additional nightly homework, but there is usually time given in class to start or complete homework.

Will I be prepared for the State Board Exam?

Yes! We do a mock state board class and exam. Our students are always prepared, actually, we call that the easy part of the curriculum. We show you how to set up, study, and clear your head in order to do your best on the exam.

Will I be able to find a job when I graduate?
