Financial Aid

Continental Academie recognizes that many individuals cannot assume the full financial burden of the costs of a post-secondary education. For this reason, financial aid in the form of grants and loans is available to help bridge the gap between the costs of education and available student and family resources.

Our Admissions and Financial Aid departments work together to provide access to financial resources for all students, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds in a fair, sensitive and confidential manner. We strive to inform and educate students and their families about financial options and to continually improve our services so that students may take the best advantage of their educational opportunities. Payment options for education include scholarships, payment plans and Federal Aid consisting of grants and loans. Students should check out the following websites for additional information on how to pay educational costs: www.federalstudentaid.ed.gov/federalaidfirst; www.nhheaf.org; www.college.gov; www.DiscoverStudentLoans.com; www.finaid.org.

PELL Grants

Federal Pell Grants are based on financial need and do not have to be repaid. They are available to qualified students based on the U.S. Department of Education’s formula for financial need. For the Financial Aid year 2009-2010, qualifying students may be eligible for a grant up to $5350 for the first academic year. To apply for the Pell Grant online, go to www.fafsa.ed.gov. The school code for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is 013189 for the Hudson campus, and 008493 for the Manchester campus. If you do not have internet access to apply online, you may obtain a paper application from the Academie Financial Aid Office. We will be happy to assist you in completing the application. A FASFA tutorial can be found at http://www.finaid.ucsb.edu/FAFSASimplification/index.html.

Federal Stafford Loans

Federal Stafford Loans are available to students who have completed and processed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). There are two types of Stafford Loans, Subsidized and Unsubsidized. Students qualifying for a Subsidized Stafford Loan will have the interest paid by the U.S. Government while the student is in school and for a 6-month grace period after leaving school. Interest on the Unsubsidized Stafford Loan can be paid by the student while in school or added to the loan balance. Both Stafford Loans do not enter re-payment until 6-months after the student has cased attendance at the school. For the July 2009 through June 2010 financial aid year, dependent students may qualify for up to $3500 in a subsidized loan and an additional $2000 in an unsubsidized loan. Independent students may qualify for up to $3500 in a subsidized loan and $6000 in an unsubsidized loan.

Federal PLUS Loans

PLUS loans are credit-based loans to parent of eligible students for their educational costs. The student’s cost of attendance determines the maximum amount of the loan, in most cases, after any Pell Grant or Stafford Loans is deducted. PLUS loan repayments begin 30 to 45 days after the loan is fully disbursed to the school, but, parents do have the option of requesting of requesting a delayed payment option similar to that of the Stafford Loan. If a parent is denied a PLUS loan for any reason, the student would be eligible for an additional $4000 in an Unsubsidized Stafford Loan. Parents can apply online at www.nhheaf.org.

Alternative Career Loans

Alternative private loans may also be available to the student based on the applicant’s and/or co-applicants credit history. Interest rates and origination fees vary depending on credit score. You may apply through a lender of your choice or contact the Academie for assistance.

Payment Plans

Various payment plans are available for students not pursuing financial aid. A down payment is required and monthly payments arranged to complete payment by graduation.
